About Us

Experience Big Bend in style - comfortably and sustainably...

About JH:

We fell in love with the Big Bend area in the mid 90’s and we are passionate about outdoor activities and environmentally conscious living.  We designed Javelina Hideout as our retirement home, and our dream became a reality in 2017 when construction was complete.   people.

Javelina Hideout is an off-grid EcoLodge that blends in beautifully with the surrounding desert scenery. It is the perfect place to enjoy a post hike cocktail at the sunset bar, roast marshmallows, dine under the 1000+ square foot covered porch of the main house, swing under the private porch of the bunk house, or kick back in your hammock and watch the stars come out to play with the Milky Way.

The property consists of a main house (768 sq ft), a bunkhouse (140 sq ft), and a large shaded porch (1000+ sq ft).  With ample indoor space, we've put a lot of attention into our outdoor space as well.

The Space at JH:

The main house features a full kitchen and open concept dining and living area.  The kitchen is equipped with an oven, gas range, and a full sized refrigerator (no dishwasher).  Pots, pans and dishware are provided for your convenience.

The master bedroom has a large east facing window for morning sunshine and sunrise viewing from bed, and a high south facing window for views.  The room is extremely comfortable with high end bedding and gorgeous views.

We have recently (2023) upgraded our solar array and battery bank so the AC can be run 24/7 in both the main home and the bunkhouse, keeping both spaces nice and cool in the hot weather.

When the weather is too nice to be indoors, you can also cook outside on the charcoal park grill  or the propane grill.  We also offer a large outdoor cooking station and a wonderful sunset bar.

The separate bunkhouse is ideal for guests wanting a little extra quiet and solitude away from the main house.  It has Air Conditioning, 2 TwinXL bunks with screened, sliding windows at the head and foot of each bunk for a nice crossbreeze and views of the stars.  There is an outdoor sink under the large private shaded porch.

Enjoy an evening campfire around the firepit out front (please bring your own firewood), or during a burn ban use the gas firepit located in the seating area out back.

We ask that you please respect the environment, conserve, and practice sustainable living while you explore Big Bend with us.

Special Request of our guests:

We do ask that our guests not use more than 10 gallons of rainwater per day / per person, and that we conserve our most valuable and precious resource in the desert - our water!

Please do not bring or use any electrical appliances that heat up - such as a blow dryer, curling iron, etc...  These appliances will drain the solar battery bank and can possibly damage the system.  Please conserve energy the same way you conserve water.
